Astronomy
Background
I have always been mad about photography, and I've been collecting kit for over 20 years. A few years ago I was lucky enough to pick up a 500mm telephoto lens, albeit an old one, but the price was right. With a 2x converter, this has enabled me to start photographing some things up in the sky. This page has the best shots I've taken recently, and I will add others if I think they are worth posting. Please note that the full-size images linked to the thumbnails can be quite large files, up to a megabyte or more.
Please respect my intellectual property. If you want to download the photos for your own private viewing pleasure, please do so. If you would like to use any of them for commercial purposes, please contact me first for permission, and I might even give you the original source files.
As a convention, I will be posting the photographic details in 35mm format, so all digital camera and other conversions have been taken into account.

Comet McNaught
Unfortunately, I only found out about Comet McNaught on Monday evening (15 January 2007) and missed the first change to view it. Weather thwarted efforts to see it on the Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, but I managed to get some good shots on the Thursday evening (18 January). Along with several other Joburgers, I went hunting for a good vantage point on Northcliff Hill, and finally ended up at Hilltop Place.
